Growth Mindset vs Fixed Mindset. It Matters!!!
Everyone differs in their beliefs regarding their abilities. Some individuals believe that their capabilities are flexible, while others assume these skills they have are fixed. Growth vs. fixed mindset was initially discovered by a psychologist named Carol Dweck. She states that a growth mindset isn't just about effort, although it's key, it's about learning new strategies, learning to ask for help when you are stuck. While a fixed mindset, you are more focused on showing others how much you know (look intelligent at all cost).
Why having a growth mindset matters? It's a major key towards attaining your goals in life. John Maxwell said, when you pursue a lifetime of growth not only will it make you better, or open new doors, but that a growth mindset is the seed of hope. Developing a growth mindset will help you to concentrate more on what you want to achieve. It can influence your enthusiasm and enhance your capabilities.
Here are three things that can help to alter your mindset on your growth journey.
1. Raise Your Self-Awareness Regarding Your Mindset
Having a fixed mindset is the same as being in a straitjacket. It keeps you trapped. You should listen to what you tell yourself when you choose to pass up on the opportunity to learn something new or, when you prefer not to take the risk and face the challenge because you are afraid to fail. You may not be aware of how a fixed mindset can stop you from succeeding if you are not aware of having it or are taking the right steps to altering your mindset for better. By being aware and having a growth mindset, this can put you on the right track. Reflect daily, and ask yourself these questions which will help you to be open and stay focus;
Do you know what you are good at, and what you lack?
Do you acknowledge that there is still much to learn?
Do you think before acting or do you consider how your actions will affect others?
Do you own up to your mistakes or admit when you are wrong
2. Get Help From The Experts You must consider choosing the area you would like to be improved and then ask for help from the experts in these area. Consider working with a coach. Someone who can work with you to become successful in achieving your goals and helping you on your growth journey. Learning the right way to learn will help in altering your mindset. Your mindset influences your response to numerous opportunities and the challenges that you will encounter during your lifetime.
3. Practice Like A Pro
Altering your mindset regarding your capability in a specific skill might mean mastering this by means of disciplined practice. Haphazard or mindless practicing will not cut this. In order to master this skill, it will take practicing it with motivation and intention which will help in improving this skill. It is not about imitating or following others, but this is about learning from the mistakes they made and getting motivated by the success they reaped. In other words, "role model their mindset". You may observe, learn or adapt what you garner from following and listening to them and apply those things that apply to your own reality. It can be a practical way of learning faster.
Remember, once your mindset changes, everything on the outside will change along with it.
