5 Tips for Dealing With a Negative Co-worker


We’ve all worked with people who are just negative. They always have an issue with everything.You say the sky is blue, and your coworker responds… argh, it’s too blue, and you’re like really? Hmmm. They complain about their bosses, their colleagues, the company, how long their fingers are and the list goes on and on.

Well, there are many ways to deal with a negative coworker. Here are our top 5 tips.

1. Approach them with a positive mindset. Try not to judge, assume or analyze a negative person. Spending time trying to analyze them is wasting your valuable time.

2. Set clear boundaries. A person's negative energy can affect your attitude. So, distance yourself from this person and if you must be around this person, keep your interactions short.

3. Embody Positive Energy and spend time with people who also embodies positivity. Your happiness and your peace of mind are more important. Don't let their negativity ruin your day or affect how you view yourself.

4. Do not take it personally and don't let your emotions respond. Simply Rise Above it. We all know that negative people issues are their issues. It's not about YOU. It's about them and their behavior. Remember, you can’t control a negative person behavior, but you can control how you choose to engage with this person and how you choose to respond.

5. Take Action.Dealing with a negative person at work or any walk of life especially one who bullies, undermines, makes everyone uncomfortable and creates unnecessary stress. This stress can take a toll on you and your work.Make this person aware of their behavior and that you are willing to "bump" it up to management if needed.

It is definitely not easy learning or creating a new habit of responding positively to negative people.It may seem difficult in the beginning but by practicing these tips, it will become easy and you will be more at ease at work. Remember, you have the power to choose how you feel, what you think and how you respond.
